FINAL IDEA

MAKING YOUR FINAL PROTOTYPE (S)

You have now created a detailed plan to manufacture your prototype (s) and so now you need to do it. I would always suggest starting with some off the easier parts so that you get 'warmed up' and comfortable working independently in the workshop environment. Use the flow chart below to help you with this process.

It is critical that you follow all the HEALTH & SAFETY requirements for the manufacturing process you are carrying out .

Find Materials

The school has a number of materials already in stock for you to use. You can use the materials chart below to remind yourself about what we have available to you. If there is anything more unique or specific you would like please talk to your teacher directly and we may well be able to order you something in. The more notice we have for this the better.

In order to access materials you should go to the 'Long store cupboard' (see photo below). This is where we store most of our materials so this should be the first place you look. If you are unsure about what material you are looking for or are confused in anyway, please speak to your teacher directly so we can make sure you are using the correct material. We do not want unnecessary waste and the way to avoid this is to check before you start cutting it!

Prepare for the process

If you are completing a simple part of your product you will require less preparation that creating a more complex part using a process that may be new to you.

Either way you will need to understand:

- Where to find the tools or equipment

- The basic principles of the process

- if you need assistance or not

- the safety equipment required

The first step will be making sure you understand the process. Please make sure as a starting point you have watched the video on the process you want to complete. You can either use the chart below with direct links to these or on our manufacturing process youtube playlist.

Below you will see some information about all the different workshops and what tools, equipment & machinery you can find in them. As a rule all the tool cupboards in every room have the core range of hand tools for your use and it is the machinery that differs.
