SCAMPER

What is the aim?
SCAMPER sounds similar to Copy-Combine-Transform, however, when used correctly it can really allow you to avoid the dreaded design fixation.
The technique
Take one of your previous ideas - for this example we will use this idea for a greenhouse/storage bench.
- PICK 1 of the SCAMPER elements - let's say S (substitute) - so you could substitute the wooden bench with cast concrete
- PICK ANOTHER - M (modify) so you could run it all the way around the greenhouse
- PICK ANOTHER - C (combine) and install lighting underneath
- PICK ANOTHER - P (put to another use) and say it's in the courtyard of an apartment block, and doubles as a community greenhouse and safe lighting​

You don't even need to use all of the elements to come up with a good variation on your original idea... one or two may be enough.
